SUBJECT: Ordering the new ODU (work) uniforms
Background
The
new OPERATIONAL dress uniform or ODU has been adopted by the Coast Guard and is
now being phased in by the Auxiliary as the official work uniform. Although not
yet mandatory for the Auxiliary it is expected to become so once everyone has
had a reasonable time to order the ODU components.
You
can order the ODU shirt (aka: coat, jacket, blouse, ODU top) and long pants for
use in cool weather, from the CG uniform center (UDC) and get the shorts on line
or from a local Army Navy Surplus Store. There is a different source for the
hot weather ODU Polo Shirt that is listed later in this memo.
Army
Navy Surplus Stores
1.
Stanley’s Army-Navy, 3280 Palm Beach Blvd. Fort Myers, 33916 PH: 334-4085, has
the navy blue ODU (BDU) shorts for $24.99 and ODU (BDU) shirts can be ordered
for $29.99. They say the navy blue ODU pants are in stock for $29.99. Specify
that all items must come from same manufacturer and match in color. They charge
extra for XXL and up.
2.
Ted’s Military Surplus Store is an online source for ODU shorts. When I phoned
they told me they have ODU (BDU) navy blue shorts, shirts and pants in stock.
They come in 100% cotton rip stock or in poly cotton rip stock for same price
and they can be ordered with a fly zipper rather than buttons. The shirt (they
call it a jacket) is priced at 24.95 plus $2 for 2X, plus $4 for 3X. The long
ODU pants are priced at $24.95, plus extra $ for largest sizes. The shorts are
priced at $19.95, plus extra $ for largest sizes.
You
can phone Ted's Military Surplus Store at 302-945-6800 or order on line:
http://www.tedsmilitarysurplus.com/clothing/snavyblue.html
When
you get to the site, click on “clothing” then click on BDU Camo Jackets, BDU
Camo Pants and then on BDU shorts. Each time select Navy Blue.
3.
The Coast Guard Exchange at Ft Myers had very few uniform items and no ODU
shorts. They can order from the UDC for you, but you can do that for yourself
and you will still have to get the shorts from a different source..
Coast
Guard Uniform Distribution Center
Start with the Uniform Distribution Center at Woodbine, NJ. Call
1-800-874-6841. You will be presented with menu choices. They will tell you to
press #1 if you want to place an order. Do so and you will get a pleasant
person on the other end who will guide you through the order process. Have your
Visa or Master Card ready along with your Aux ID #. and sizes.

for larger sizes.
New

multiple sources.
Auxiliary
Operations Polo Shirt
Operations Polo Shirt -- Change of
Source
The Seventh District Store will
no longer be supplying the Operations Polo Shirts. The only official source is
outlined below.
1. The Auxiliary Operations Polo Shirt is available for ordering through the
Auxiliary Center (AUXCEN).
2. The Auxiliary Operations Polo Shirt is an alternative to the Operational
Dress Uniform (ODU) Shirt, when worn as a hot weather outfit. No logo, patches,
insignia, nametapes, nor nametags of any type may be worn on the polo shirt.
Only the embroidery prescribed below is authorized.
3. Appearance: The Auxiliary Operations Polo Shirt has USCG AUXILIARY
embroidered in white on the left front side, and the Auxiliarist's LAST NAME
embroidered in white on the right front side. The shirt is dark blue, has no
pockets, and is made of 100% combed cotton.
4. Costs: Sizes small (SM) through extra large (XL) cost $32.50 each. Double
extra large (XXL) cost $35.00 each. Triple extra large (XXXL) cost $38.00 each.
The quantity of shirts ordered will determine the shipping and handling fees.
5. Placing Orders: The embroidery vendor will send shipments directly to the
shipping address using UPS...so a shipping street address is required for
delivery (i.e. - do not provide a post office box address).
You can also send an e-mail request for an electronic copy of the form to auxcen@sbcglobal.net.
(If you request the form by e-mail, please ensure that you include your District
and Flotilla number as well as your EMPLID number). Print out the form, ensure
that all of the information is included, then:
Mail it along with your check or money order to:
Coast Guard Auxiliary Center
9449 Watson Industrial Park
St. Louis, MO 63126
Once the order is received and processed at the Auxiliary Center the shirt goes
to the embroidery vendor who completes embroidery work including the
individual’s last name and then ships directly to the individual. The process
should take approximately 2-3 weeks for delivery.
NOTE: When you sew or iron on name tapes to the ODU shirt, cut them the same
length as the width of the pocket and place them directly above the shirt
pockets even with and touching the seam of the pocket. Your last name goes above
right pocket. USCG AUXILIARY goes above the left pocket. Use metal collar
insignia or sew on collar insignia. Coxswain device can be sew on type centered
1/4 inch above USCG AUXILIARY sew on tape. No insignia or devices are to be
placed on the ODU polo shirt. Illustrations can be found at
