What is the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary?

 
  • Volunteer service organization composed of men and women
  • U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary established by Congress in 1939 to perform many support services for the U.S. Coast Guard
  • Operates under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
  • More than 35,000 members
  • Provides boating safety services to recreational boaters
  • Supports the U.S. Coast Guard in carrying out "Operation: Patriot Readiness" and many other functions
